Anthrax

Rock City Tuseday Jan 23rd

Hmmm, well firstly, 'where the wap were you all'. Ok, so by the time that Anthrax came on the place had filled up somewhat, but it was still quite a disappointing turnout. Upstairs was shut after all....

Well, first band up, '3 Colours Red' - I think. Seem to be causing an itch in the nether regions of the media, possibly cos one of the band is the brother of Danny from the Wildhearts, and cos one of them used to be in 'The Senseless Things' (R.I.P), but well, as the person stood just behind me so kindly put it, 'Fuck off, your shite, and you sounds just like all the other fuckers!' - his quote not mine, so blame him for the language :) Well he's got a point, they are another band who sound similar to the W band, which ain't a bad thing if it didn't just feel like bandwagon jumping from some of them .... anyway ... jury is once again in deliberation.

No doubting the verdict on Anthrax. Criminally underrated and now under appreciated. Once again, Anthrax were, well not bad actually old chap. Kicking things off with Random Acts of Senseless Violence from last years Stomp 442 album, they delivered a series of classics. Got, the Time, In my World, Caught in a Mosh, Only, Hy-Pro-Glo, Room for one more, and from the newie, there was Fueled, In a Zone and some others that because I'm writing this about a week late I've forgotten, oops :)

John Bush pisses over Joey Belladonna live as well as on record, but it does seem strange not seeing little Dan Spitz on stage, not sure the real reasons for the split have come out.

So we get the classics, some covers - Anti Social, Protect and Survive, Bring the Noise, and the bastards teased with one riff from Medusa, then the opening instrumentally bit to Among the Living, and finally I am the Law.

A good slagging for some of the American 'Punk', Oasis and Blur, Kerrang before the band leave with the words 'We'll be back' and with the slagging they gave the Judge Dredd fim, I don't think that these were words of appreciation for Sly Stallone. And then fammosh....

Overall Dave Verdict: Should've been more of you bastards there, still, you're the ones that missed out :), just make sure you try and catch them when the return in June, you know it makes sense ....
